The Power Ranger and The Wookie

Cold front passing through overnight gave some welcome rain for the garden and did as predicted clearing through in the morning.  The wind veered to the NW and was as fresh as forecast being in the 30mph plus region.  Well it had to drop at some point so we opted on a trip to Sennen Cove for some Hang Gliding and Tandems and confident that it would happen.

Meeting Peachy on site it was still a bit breezy so we caught up with gossip in the Van soon joined by Phil L arriving on his new toy and looking every bit like a Power Ranger.  A run to the front to check the wind, a coat that was a little on the smelly side and a bad hair day resulted in me ending up as the Wookie,  that's us sorted for New Years Eve in St Ives then;)

A Power Ranger

No sooner had another pilot arrived, stared at the sea and then driven out of the car park did the wind ease a little and we got rigging, thank you for the sacrifice :)).  Testing the air by test flying a Calypso with a fresh sail on it proved both conditions to be fine and the glider to fly very nicely indeed, anyone want a Pretty in Pink Calypso (with a bit of purple)??

It was time for Tandems and first up was Nick CM (Camborne) who set the standard with a cracking take off run soon seeing us climbing nicely in the abundant lift.  We had a super flight with Nick loving every second as we cruised over the houses and harbour before playing with the glider and chasing the birds. Phil popped up on Peaachy's Zero for a bat around adding to the scenery.  The car park was just about empty so landing was as easy as it gets and it was a very chuffed Nick that unclipped.

getting set to go, don't you just love turning on Go Pro's!

Super take off run, ideal

Next off was Alex P (Totnes) who had made a long drive for his flight but was absolutely delighted with it and made the most of it. Visibilty was superb making the views spectacular and the Isles of Scilly looking like they were only just out of reach.  Another tippy toe landing and Alex was down safe and sound. Thank you for making the trip down and so pleased that it lived up to and exceeded expectations.

classic Sennen :))

Jason gives a wave over Gwenver

The sun begins to drop guess it is actually Autumn

Having patiently waited  our last passenger Jason B (Newquay) clipped in and we went to the front.  The wind was still good although the direction had backed a little giving us the chance to fly both sides of the cove.  After a bit of soaring on the main ridge we crossed the gap and onto the more westerly ridge flying up to Gwenver.  Jason who had expected a normal Glider flight was delighted with the change and was full of questions on how what and when.  With the sea thermals kicking in we had a fun fly before top landing safe and sound.  Thank you to Jasons wife Vicky and daughter Esmey for their patience I am sure it was worth it.

A Wookie in a hemet .......

A cracking afternoon with some very happy faces and a glider sorted, ideal.  Well done to Wyn D for taking the first of the winter Sea Thermals for a ride from Perran, nice one.

Quote of the day "better a bit long than a bit short"
