Give me sunshine - Algodonales day 3

Martin sets up on Poniette launch

Another forecast which offered a choice of sites but after a quick checkout at the main bottom landing we opted to head up the main hill to check out the Poniette launch. As we showed the guys the bottom landing field there was already a constant stream of gliders coming in but we were just to late to see one of the Polish fly into a camper van and drape his canopy over it!

With no one staying up and a blue sky we headed up arriving just as things began to really get going and by the time the guys were rigged there were cumulus all over the sky and the lift was everywhere. Once again Bill led the pack and was soon up in amongst it followed closely by Michel and Chrissy. The rest took off one by one and everyone thermalled up and away into the blue. Conditions were reported to be bouncy enough by some whilst others thought it was pretty smooth ????

Hangies set up under a cracking sky

Kaz made her way to the notice board field where she was on hand to help with a bit of guidance on the approaches although fair to say she was not always guiding the pilot she thought she was...... To be fair her life was tricky enough with Mark doing a mini XC and Phil deciding to keep him company, in fact only half the team made into the Notice board filed!! By the time I got down from the hill some of the guys were down and others heading that way having had enough and pretty soon only Mike C was left up there. Mike had a ball playing in the thermals before finally deciding to pop it down in the cafe field where we picked him up from.

Things were now breezy enough so we decided to take a trip to Ronda Veja in the hope it may drop off as the day went on. It was windy enough on site and whilst a couple of radio modellers had some fun we passed the time playing with the catapult, making up some spare lines for Chrissy and Bill and Mike went radio hunting and very successfully too as it turned out :)

Getting some practice in

As evening drew near the wind did indeed drop back and Michel gave it a go and in fairness did a good job of it despite the wind being a fair way off. He nipped in back on top before talking Bill into joining him for a flight down to the main road. They both enjoyed a fun flight down soaring the lower ridge on the way and we picked them up on the way home.

Michel shows them how to do it

Another good day with everyone having some good flying in what were challenging enough conditions. Rumour has it that Bill N did not have meatballs at JJ's but this is to be confirmed and Peachy spent the evening trying to revive his manhood after a cold shower!!

Quote of the day “ I've got your helmet in my left hand Graham” " oh I had not noticed"
