A matter of luck - Algodonales Day 5

Something or someones smoking

Tuesday is Bonfire day and we woke to blue sky, no wind and the smoke of plenty of Bonfires going pretty much straight up. Our expert resident also identified mixed in with the smell of burning socks the distinct smell of something more potent so we all took our morning air on the Terrace!

Breakfast over we locked and loaded , played with exploding seed pods then headed up to the main launch on Lejar for the first flights off there this year. Things were already getting a bit busy when we arrived but we have seen it a lot busier. The guys got ready and as soon as it looked suitably thermic Phil pushed in front of Bill and got the day going for Team Cloud9. As Phil climbed out and quickly sat on the top of an ascending spiral of gliders the rest got going. Phil timing was good and whilst some went up some went down proving once again just how LUCKY he is.......... The term a bit lively came through on the radio as Simon headed out from launch giving him plenty of practice at active flying and hill avoidance techniques.

Peachy does a classic forward launch

Wheres Phil ??

...way up there !

Martin thought he was flying Perranporth as he ridge soared close to the hill but a quiet word in his ear saw him give the solid stuff a safe berth. Michel gave some entertainment with his snake charming skills although to be fair it looked a bit like the snake had a bit of a monk on.

All down safe and sound and read cam and A line saw him unavoidably descend into Jackie's bush where he nestled. Whilst his extraction went well a bruised foot saw him retire from the fray for ice and beer..

Having sorted Mike we picked up the guys from the landing field where they were chilled out under the tree listening to Phil's tales of daring do, again and again and again. Back up the hill it was time to head to the west launch where the wind was starting to come on.

As the sun came round and the Vultures appeared gliders began to launch and climb and once again Lucky Phil was first away and once again he got lucky and up he went after nearly decapitating someone on the way. The rest took off one by one and enjoyed a variety of success before meeting up in the landing field but all looked happy and were pleased with their flights in one way or another.

The masses arrive at Poniette launch

A slightly earlier day saw us back at the digs in daylight so we had time for showers before heading out for a very nice meal in the square where you will be pleased to know that Big beers run at a whole two Euros each, you can guess what happened next...............

Posh meal out

Quote of the day “exactly what height is the definition of dwarf?”
