Algo 2014 Day One

Actually Day one minus abit if you want the full story! After an early evening trip up to Bristol Airport Kaz and myself stayed in a Doggy layby in the van, sorry I meant Dodgey but have a feeling one of the former was not far away.

04.15 and we met up with the team in the Airport made introductions and found out my Debit card did not want to play ball. A bit of chasing around and we managed to rustle up some cash before having to leg it to get on the plane on final call, bit of a stressful start. All aboard Easy Jet flight 6015 and it was off south to Sunny Spain.

Arriving to a bright blue sky is always good as it getting the hire cars sorted before heading north to the mountains. Algo' was looking super as we drove in and the sight of gliders starting to fly off the westerly added to the enthusiasm. A quick refresh drink in the square, an unload in the house and it was off up the hill. On the way we did a check out of the landing fields which was handy as a pilot kindly showed us the pitfalls of getting it wrong in the notice board field no one hurt so all good.

Arrival in Algo' drinks nicccccccce and cooooool

On launch it was a bit breezy and plenty thermic so with Kaz, Graham K and Julie S heading back down for a shoppong trip we watched Michel start proceedings for Team Cloud 9 and bounce around the sky before heading out to land. Updates on conditions in the landing field from Michel indicated in things moderating and this was born out on top.

things get moving outwards and upwards

The guys got set up and next off was Martin J looking very smooth as he launched. Peachy was next and did a cracker soon climbing out and looking down on us from space, or so it seemed to him. The three Algo' newbies were next Simon S (the most experieced) making it look easy and enjoying a nice flight in the by now much improved conditions.

Simon S set and ready

Colin upper left and Carl upper right share the air

Carl R on his first flight abroad and off a hill anything like this did a good launch and with a tiny bit of encouragement was soon up with the best and playing with the odd thermal looking very comfortable indeed. Last but by no means least Colin N got away cleanly (worth that practice at Perran) and climbed in the lift to enjoy his first mountain flying. One by one they decided when they had had enough and headed out to the noticeboard field where after burning off shed loads of height they all landed fine and whats more with out being radio controlled in, well done guys.

Happy faces in the noticeboard field

By the time we had packed and got them sorted car 2 had returned laden with shopping and unpacked, think we had the easy bit …....

Beers and cheers in the house before some headed out to eat and some stayed in to sleep, Long day but worth it with some lovely flying and a great introduction to the new guys.

So romantic .......

Quote of the day “ would you like some sausage? No thanks I have already stuffed myself “ guess it could be a fu fortnight ;)
