Gliders looking pretty
At last the Easter Holidays have burst into life with a cracking day at Perranporth and also a top one for the XC hounds at High Cliff.
It was very much a Hangy day, well certainly the morning was and it was great to see them out in force at Perran although sad to say everyone but myself and Kaz were not locals!
Training wise we had Vicky J (London) who was along for a taster day on the Paraglider but switched to a taster/tandem day on the hanger and Joe G (Brighton) who arrived today to start his Hang Gliding course.
They both had a taste of tethering first thing as conditions were brisk enough and both of them took to it well having some lovely flights across the top. Then we switched to the Tandem with Vicky going up first and having a stonking flight in super lift. She really enjoyed it particularly the stalls and didn't stop chatting the whole time. Next it was Joes turn and we had a good flight with Joe taking control and doing a fine job. With the wind on the drop and also backing a little the lift quickly dropped off leaving us with not quite enough height to pop back in on top, so it was off to the beach. However with only one on board it was easy enough to fly the glider back up and soon we were all on top again.
With a lighter breeze we flicked back to the tethers this time on the Condor and the guys rounded of a full day with some more flights in super conditions even allowing Joe to sort out his base bar conversions.
Lots of "free" flying went on with lots of gliders and visitors from Yorkshire, Southampton, Somerset and Devon. Even Kaz got up on her hanger a couple of times. The paragliders got a slot in mid afternoon although it quickly disappeared again as the wind filled in as evening approached.
News from High Cliff came through that Pete C who had taken some less experienced pilots there to get them XC'ing had made a cracking flight landing at Start point for well over 50 miles. Although his students did not get quite as far they had a great day firing them up for the season.
