Sticks and Vulture sex

A more lively bunch after a more chilled evening and an almost civilized breakfast.  Similar forecast to yesterday so could get breezy later but should be on the main launch first.  Julie S opted for a day off  fir enough as it has been pretty full on and we are on holiday!

Morning ablutions

Pod tickling

Car two were delayed a little due to lack of water but we all arrived fine and once again what was left of Team filed mice got set to go.  Some go off the main launch but with a bit of south in it already most opt for the Southerly.

Peachy inflates right at the back and we encourage him as he uses the full length of the runway in fine style to get a round of applause and float out over the abyss.  One by one the guys get away but the lift is marginal to say the least except for lucky Ollie who seems to find more than he wants on the his flight.  Pilot X notices a large twig in his brake line giving a nice right hand turn so made their way down.  I sneaked one in but found little to help to land with the group, well nearly with them as Michel kiting back across the field dissapred into a ditch …...

Phippsy does a small dance

Run Peachy Run

Graham K away

The wind was picking up as forecast so after ices and cokes in the bar we headed back up to see what was on.  Saturday is always quiet being changeover day but this was really quiet, on a small group of Germans on Ponientte and they had “lost”one of their pilots who was “blown” over the back in a thermal.

An in depth discussion on Vultures and their breeding habits ensued before with it even windier we spit the group half heading to El Bosque and the other half to the bar.

El Bosque group had a similar afternoon to yesterday with only Pilot X and Graham K giving it a go and both finding it pretty breezy once away so convincing everyone else there to give it a miss.

First away

What four Hangy Instructors one hill and one student

Back at base we found the bar pilots full of “Angry Sangria” so we headed out get some ourselves and to get Ollie a photo with the local talent.  As most of headed back to the house Ollie and Pilot X  were seen heading into Poco Poco, it does not look good for the 07.15 start tomorrow then........

Foot Thongs, sunburnt arms and lost hankies.

One left over from last night, guess the song

A little worse for wear some of the guys struggled a bit to get going both for breakfast and on the hill. We had an interesting display by the local crop dusting plane form the balcony, what a way to start a day

Sleepy Ollie

Oh dear get some clothes on peachy

Another drive up the hill the guys are well settled into the routine although there is a little less urgency to get gliders out and sorted. Main launch is where we head and a good number are already there with the schools getting students off as the wind comes on and the hill heats up.

Hobbit tree and ground workers

Ollie off again

Team filed mice take the early slot and Martin J is kindly already on his way down for an easy retrieve. A steady stream of pilots launch as the wind flicks and we have our first bush muncher “oh bl**dy hell” say no more. With a full car left on top and no gliders climbing the wind finally goes to the SW and begins to fill in as forecast all be it a couple of hours later than expected. We flick launches to Ponientte where gliders are already flying but the wind is increasing by the minute.

We watch for while then make the decision to try our lunch at El bosque where the wind should be lighter rather than get blown away if the forecast is correct. An hour later we are there and it is breezy enough and well off so it's coffe time. The wind eases and we head up the hill where we are joined on launch by a local, ideal. Michel discovers his parachute is missing and we ransack the vans but it is not there. A few texts later and it is located, hopefully we can get it back tomorrow.

Ollie bear Hug

Despite the wind being well off the local launches and punts out before tracking the ridge to the right and has an amazingly smooth time of it in bouyant air.

Michel entertains us with some snake charming / harp playing as well as covering the odd pilot in his lines. More pilots arrive having come from Ponientte where it is now blowing a whooley and pilots are landing backwards into the trees, nice. Kaz finds a small prick in her pants and removes it quickly before getting a sympathetic Ollie bear hug.

Evening meal and table waiter

Pilot X and myself get away and have a fun flight down whilst the others decide to give it a miss picking us up in the bottom field before heading off to risk another interesting meal in the local Bar.

The name game now in its 7th day got more challenging on the drive home but at least kept most of us awake.

Full House and banned from Facebook

Early doors, Phil and I slept poorly, woke early having promised to go shop with Kaz ...arrived 40 minutes early , sat in the car like 3 travellers...decided to have coffee and watch the hot roadsweepers ...nice..

Highly technical pants

Pants around ankles

A dash around supermarket....80 cakes and 2 bottles of 43 ..twas like shopping for a school picnic. Back to digs by 10.10..feeling a little less sick..

Water Boys

Ready to rumble.. Montellano ...mmmmm, Lower launch cleared of thistles the flying began...Olly kitted up , in line and away with Martin climbing up to the top ridge...lift rather than sink..my flight down rather than up... must have Martins vario ...heyho .  Barbie, lived up to his nickname with video evidence to prove it.

I could ride it backwards

Lower launch cleared and ready for action

While Phippsey fed the local cat...cake rather than his testaqules ...we all gathered and headed to village for a crate of coke.

Kit cat and testicles

Rested and refreshed ...nice clean facilities we headed to top launch ...Ollie was flown out so assisted on top...making sure our gang podged into the que ..  Twas the usual multilingual carnage ..pod gods trying to sort out their brakes and launching like telly tubbies …

Phippsy jumps in

Montellano Magic

Kaz and I showed them how it should be done...posed for an appropriate time and we were off into chocolate hell ...quite busy...Phippsey, Phil, and Michael soared the water tower as i headed in for an interesting road landing...heyho...can't be good at everything …

Sky Gods

Kaz "cummin in"

Teba, Trees and Totty

Technical pants

Having managed a little blog catching up in the square we loaded the vans and headed up Lejar in what appeared to be a nice day. On top the wind was gently blowing up the front and plenty were set out but no one flying as they waited for signs of lift to come through. We had a already decided to hold back a little and to wait for the more lifty conditions. A couple of dust devils popped through early the wind switched and that was it, pack up and move.

Buff miesters on the hill

Chicks

One handed press up's comp, Ollie won

The masses assembled on the NW launch where the wind was on but it was way to early for the sun to heat the rock faces so we made a decision to go and have a look at Teba, a site we had visited several times but never actually flown. Another closed road due to subsidence, we are going to get stuck here if this carries on, shame, and we arrived there mid afternoon to find Ganterfly on site and just starting to launch.

Dubious Dancing

We are out of here

Not a lot had changed from previous visits, one Pagoda had collapsed but the condoms were still there, well presumably some fresh ones and Kaz had to be saved from sitting on a relatively fresh one.

Avoiding the condoms

Ollie cruises the ridge

The first few gliders went down the next few up and up and up, looking good. Michel jumped the que and got off before Mr K and was soon up there with them, Graham K got a sink cycle and despite a good effort was soon down, Ollie C who attracts thermals like flies made it all look far to easy as he circled up looking good and martin j got away just as the lift passed through.

The guys made the best of it and as the thermals passed floated down one by one. Michel tried his hardest to stay up in fact a little too hard resulting in him landing not in the official field and his wing well and truly in a tree …....”bl**dy H*ll” . Those left flying spotted him and with a bit of a struggle Kaz managed to find him reporting that they maybe some time.

Martin up and away

Ollie and Kaz float along together ......

In fact it took Matin J and myself to aid in the recovery along with a leatherman but finally he was out. Ollie B had slipped in another flight in between so we picked him up on the way back up. With the evening lift pushing in I got the chance for a fly and led Cloud 9 off the hill to find super smooth lift which eased us above the lower hill nicely. A little more height and it was off across the pass to the higher hill passing the dump on the way. Very gentle lift worked all the way to the top and a few hundred feet beyond revealing some stunning views in all directions. Phil L came along to join me and not far behind was Ollie, excellent.

Heading off to the big hill

All down and safe

Happy days

With the sun dropping we all began to sink back down and it was a group landing back in the field with Peachy wishing us all something or other as we came in. Heading home the sunset was just stunning so looking good for tomorrow.

Says it all

Peachy and his very able assistants prepared a superb meal in record time and it was a very sociable one followed by a hilarious session of “Go Pro” watching with Ollie’s camera revealing close up shots of just about everyone!

When Sinky gets Lifty

Eggseptional has to be the term for breakfast as we got the timing just right resulting in some very nice eggs indeed. What, a little high cloud around and with a very light N breeze we hoped that there would be enough convection to bring the breeze up the main launch so headed off and up. With Shaun having headed off to meet up with some fiends in Granada the converstion in our car deteriated noticeably.

Another day another lunch

Things were just getting going on arrival but we gave it a good 45 minutes or so before getting the kit out to let it warm up a bit. With gliders stating to climb up to the inversion once again Graham K led the way, where is Michel ??

Sky God on launch

Dancing  Duo

Everyone got away cleanly first time despite a good number of others visiting the bushes for various reasons. Those that got up found the air a little bouncy and a lot bouncy if they made it to the inversion layer which they could not quite punch through. Even Michel thought there was room for improvement and Phil found out how well his Delta 2 dealt with Asymmetric collapses.

By by the time I got down the hill to join Kaz in the bottom landing everyone was down and pretty much packed so we headed off to the bar for some cold drinks as things were warming up quickly. A group discussion and it was the choice to head to Ronda la V once again so leaving the masses to flight it out on Ponientte. It's always a risk leaving a flyable hill so it was fingers crossed all the way.

On arrival it was quite light but good direction so I decided to give it a go and see what was on as we had the site to ourselves, is that good?? Graham K “kindly” held back and let me go first as a bit of breeze pushed through. One beat along the ridge to the far end where there was nice lift which quickly developed into a cracking climb up and away to as high as you like, lovely.

Kaz lauches off the lower

Paradise

Graham and Phil were soon up there as well and found good lift as I circled down to land and get things moving. A sink cycle saw Phil also nipping in and Graham slope landing before more steady lift came in. With things settling down Ollie popped in his final CPC qualifying soaring and top landing flights as well as having some stunning flying in between.

Michel Launching courtesy of Ollie

Martin top of the stack

Michel used up another of his 9 lives ,so that will be 11 so far then, and caused a sharp intake of breath on the hill …........

Martin J finallly shook off his nickname and replaced it with a better one as he not only ridge soared up but flew out and away from the hill climbing well high ( over 1000') as he went before pulling Big Ears to lose hieght for his return, cracking.

Peachy does a peachy one

Gliders in the sun

Classic Ronda

In such good conditions we all had a ball even Paechy got to the point of shouting down as to wht we were not all in the air, how times change.......... As evening drew in Kaz led team Cloud 9 out and away from the hill to the road landing where Michel and myself brought up the rear whilst Phil and Peachy brought the cars down. What an Excellent day :0)

Last man down

It was a flown out bunch that returned to Algo' how much longer can we keep this up ?
